Spring 2012 Anime First Impressions: Saint Seiya Omega

Plot Synopsis: “The legends of the Pegasus Seiya, a Saint who saved Athena many times, have been told for generations. Many years have passed, and the God of war, Mars, who was sealed by Seiya, is about to revive. Meanwhile, a boy whose life was saved by Seiya years ago, is being raised by Athena and Saori to become a Saint and fight in the coming battle. When the power within him awakens, a new legend of the Saints begins!”

Thoughts: Being a fan of the Saint Seiya franchise I was excited to watch this first episode and truth be told I was pretty at the end of it. This is a revival of the series but not a complete do over, instead this is a sequel to the original series that aired many years ago.

Could you watch this first episode not having watched the original series or read the original manga? I think you could but to full enjoy what is airing you have to at least some knowledge about what happened within the original TV series. There is some throwback here with the character designs which is going to be YMMV (your mileage may vary) for some people and may turn off potential fans because of the character designs.

Is the show cliched? Hell yes it is, but who cares people are getting their ass kicked so that should be motivation enough here to watch it.

Score 4/5

Spring 2012 Anime Season First Impression: Space Bros

When they were young, the brothers Mutta and Hibito promised each other they would become astronauts. Now, in 2025, Hibito has followed his dream to become the first Japanese on the moon, but Mutta has just been fired from his job. His brother reminds him of their childhood promise, and Mutta decides once again to aim for space.

First Thoughts:

Space Bros has a good bit going for it in the first episode. Let us start with what is not present here. We see no moe what so ever, no young girl fanservice or really any fanservice for that matter unless you consider sporting events your fanservice then they have you covered a bit here. What do have here is a story that is not quite pointed at the otaku crowd but more of the general audience. For being more of a broad aimed first episode the show does it job well.

The two brothers who were amazed by the UFO sight when they were younger does give them a good motivation for wanting to get the moon. Of course like in life not everyone can get their wise. Mutta gets terminated from his job for a really stupid but amusing reason and because of his actions cannot find a job. His younger brother looks to be fulling this dream of going to the moon.

The character designs are alright but nothing outright fancy or terrible about them. There is not a whole lot that goes on in this episode just normal character intros and the motivation for what these two brothers do.

Space Bros first episode does a good job at setting up the world that the show is based and sets out to be that show that is different from the re of the shows that are airing this season.
